LANGLEY CITY, BC, February 6, 2018 – The Skills to Success Program that is implemented by Langley Community Services Society (LCSS), located at 5339 207th Street, Langley will have its graduation on Friday, February 16 at 12:00 PM.

The graduation will be graced by a member of the parliament, Mr. John Aldag, who will be handing out the certificate to commemorate the first milestone of the said program. The Skills to Success program started in October 2017 and will end on March 2020 hoping to help 95 participants in total.

The initial group consisting of 7 participants were in the 16-week program that include 6 weeks in class and 10 weeks at the job. The participants who were new immigrants started out as unemployed with some employment barriers but are now enjoying working on their current jobs.

Skills to Success is the first youth employment program of its kind in Langley. It is designed to assist youth into the labour market in BC. The program is funded by the Government of Canada’s Skills Link program with the objective to help youth overcome barriers to employment; to help youth develop a broad range of skills and knowledge to participate in the current and future labour market; and to promote education and skills as being key to labour market participation.

Currently, the second group consisting of 13 participants just started the program and are looking forward to landing a job soon. With the first group of participants working and the second group in class, interests amongst the youth sector has been spreading in both the City and the Township of Langley. Interested participants for the Skills to Success program are encouraged to connect with LCSS regarding their eligibility for the program.
