An interactive workshop designed for early childhood educators, parents, and caregivers of children under 10. Explore the art of African oral storytelling as a creative way to teach children about the continent of Africa. Learn how to use stories, songs, rhythm, and simple crafts to celebrate African culture, values, and wisdom. Through live storytelling, you will discover how these traditions can nurture creativity, empathy, and cultural awareness in young children,
bringing African rich heritage into your home or classroom
Presenter Bio:
Mekdes Gete is an early childhood educator with over 25 years of experience and the founder of the Hibret Cultural School Society in Vancouver, BC. Passionate about empowering children through culture and creativity, she teaches Amharic, traditional Ethiopian dance, and cooking while fostering
an appreciation for African heritage. Through her initiative Story Time With Me, Mekdes shares African oral traditions through storytelling, music, and movement, inspiring cultural pride and empathy in young learners.

This workshop will be held online through the Zoom platform.
You will need access to a laptop, tablet or computer with a camera or audio capabilities to join us.
A link to the presentation will be emailed to you 3-5 days before the workshop. Please click the link ten minutes before the workshop begins to join us. Further instructions will be included in the email.

WORKSHOP POLICIES
By registering for a workshop/course participants declare they have read, understood, and agree with all policies.
1. It is the educators' or participants’ responsibility to read the workshop/course description and make sure the training selected is suitable for their learning and/or professional development needs.
2. Participants must stay for the full workshop/course to receive a certificate.
3. Zoom workshop: To help everyone stay engaged and get the most out of the workshop, we ask that you keep your camera on, remain visible, and actively participating throughout the session. If your camera is off for extended periods, you may be marked absent. Thanks for your understanding!
4. Zoom entrance closes 15 minutes after start time in respect to the presenter and participants.
5. We are unable to accommodate children during workshop/course time. Please make childcare arrangements.
6. No monies will be refunded, or credits offered once the workshop/course starts, or if it’s missed. Withdrawal must be made 7 days in advance or more for a credit to be issued
7. I understand the CCRR staff may take some photographs (including a Zoom group picture) during workshops/courses with the purpose of promoting their training. By registering I consent to allow the CCRR to take my photograph.
8. I understand that my confirmation to attend is my payment receipt that will be sent to my email. I understand there will be a reminder email of this event closer to the date.
