Organizing Against Racism and Hate (OARH)
The Organizing Against Racism and Hate (OARH) program was established in 2001 to support a coordinated community approach to counter racism and hate activity in B.C. OARH is funded by the Ministry of Tourism, Art, and Culture and Langley Community Services has been a contract holder since 2017. OARH members are leaders in anti-racism and multiculturalism work around the province. There are 36 communities listed as OARH members in British Columbia and all have:
- An established community partnership of organizations or individuals that actively develop community capacity and skills, foster community engagement, and build community sustainability plans to address racism and hate.
- An agreed protocol on how to respond to an incident of racism in their community.
- A responsibility to provide an annual summary of incidents of racism observed or reported in their community.
Goals:
- Communities have an increased knowledge and understanding of racism & hate
- Communities are mobilized to implement racism & hate response protocols
- Networks provide leadership by engaging community members in dialogues
- Community partners develop collaborative best practices for inclusion
- Community partners welcome public perception, voice, and opinion to anti-race discourse
